The TRNC is to get its first woman prime minister temporarily after the country's three opposition politicial parties agreed on Republican Turkish party (CTP) MP sibel Siber to head up a technocrat Cabinet in the run-up to next month's general election.
Mrs. Siber a 53 year old doctor, received the mandate to form a goverment from President Dervis Eroglu yesterday afternoon, having been put forward in the morning for the role by her party, the social Democrat Party- National Forces ) DP-UG
The three parties were due to meet yesterday evening to come up with the names of those who would be ministers in the interim administration. Office holders must not be civil servants or political party canidates in the July 28 election and may not have served in the previous National Unity Party UBP goverment which collapsed last week after a vote of no confidence in Parliament. It is understood CTP will control four ministries in the new goverment, including the key Finance, portofolio, with TDP and DP-UG taking three apiece.
Minister's name are expected to be presented to the president for his approval tomorrow or on Friday.
The will be headed by Lefkosa-born Dr Siber a married mother of two who graduated from Istanbul's Cerrahpasa University Medical FAculty 30 years ago and specialist i internal medicene. Three party leaders met to discuss their options on Monday and agreed that the consensus candidate would have the backing of their 27 MPs in parliement eight of them former UBP deputies led by defeated party leadership challenger Ahmet Kasif whose rebellion paved the way of the toppling of former premier Irsen Kucuk's Administration.
