More than 20,000 tl raised at Christmas bazaar
There was festive fun with Santa for the children as stalls galore brought in a massive 20,644 tl for kyrenia animal rescue – just 400 tl short of last year’s record.
The annual Xmas bazaar fundraiser Saturday 6th of December at Girne’s Teachers Hotel offered seasonal treats for owners and pets alike, ranging from mince pies and mulled wine to cakes and preserves, toys and books, pet and fashion accessories, toiletries and bric-a-brac.
A sell-out tombola and Christmas draw saw Mike and Lynne Westcombe win two flights to any airport in turkey which had been donated by Ankara Travel.
Photographer and author Richard Chamberlain caused much hilarity when one of his 25 raffle tickets hit the jackpot... to win a copy of his own book, cyprus scenes and way of life 1954.
KAR education star Annie, the three legged cyprus terrier, did her bit for shelter dogs with Maggie Smith and Carole Widdison to take 800 tl at the “buy a dog a Christmas Dinner” stall.
Volunteer Ann Bosley said: “thanks to the Teachers Hotel for having us and David Griffiths at Wines of the World for providing the mulled wine.
“team KAR were fantastic. We had over 40 volunteers, including the Glad Rags ladies’ husbands, who all worked their socks off for a smooth and successful day.”
