Around 400 people attended a one-day Christmas bazaar organised by the North Cyprus Cancer Charity Trust (NCCCT) raising an impressive 13000 TL for the charity.
The annual event at the Pia Bella in Girne last Saturday featured a number of stalls selling items such as jewellery, cards christmas gifts and decorations. There were also stands selling handicrafts, knitted baby clothes and dolls, and painted tiles. Sales of Cakes, second-hand clothes and bric-a-brac alone raised almost 4000TL The overall figure smashed last year's total raised by 3000TL
Shoppers were served with mince pies and sausage rolls baked by the NCCCT committee members, along with tea and coffee proided free by the venue.
A raffle with a total of 45 prizes was aso held. Prizes included hotel accommodation, flights to Turkey, meal vouchers for two, health check0ups, bottles of drinks, massage sessions and other prizes donated by local businesses.
Fund were also raised through an auction for an overnight stay for two at the MErit Royal Hotel in Alsancak North Cyprus, an Iced Christmas cake and a giant tedy bear. The money raised already been used to purchase vital equipment for Girne State Hospital, such as a colour cardiovascular ultrasound device worth $ 11,500 and 10 motorised cutting knives to cut through plaster casts.
Thanking all those involved raising the money, NCCCT chairman Angela Hasman said : We were so pleased with the outcome, which was far better than we had expected
"Although the weather was miserable and dull, there was such interest, it was pleasantly suprising to see so many from the local community and we hope their interest will remain.
Its important for us that the whole of the community know about what we do, which we do for the benefit of all the members of the Pubilic
